The legendary John Mellencamp highlighted the 25th Annual Bob Costas Benefit for SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center on Saturday, April 20, at 8 p.m. at the Fox Theatre.
John Mellencamp returned to the Costas Benefit stage and performed a set that drew from his extensive catalog of classic songs including "Small Town," "Jack and Diane," "Pink Houses," "R.O.C.K. in the USA", among many others. Mellencamp's Indiana roots keep him grounded in America's heartland and, over the course of a record career spanning 35 years, his music has touched the world. His social activism, including his role in co-founding Farm Aid, is reflected in much of his music. He has been nominated for 13 Grammys, received Billboard's Century Award, ASCAP Foundation's Champion Award, The Woody Guthrie Award, Q Magazine's Classic Song-writer Award, the Americana Music Association's Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and is the 2012 recipient of the John Steinbeck Award.
